A Handbook of Spiritual Medicine
About this deal
Take the advice and guidance from respected elders, scholars and ‘subject matter experts’: it’s always sensible to keep an open mind and absorb the wisdom of others. Countless verses of the Qur’ān and Prophetic narrations attest to this, such as those that set about demarcating the state of Iḥsān (spiritual perfection) with the words: “Worship Allāh as if you see Him; if not that, then He sees you” أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ [Ṣaḥīḥ Al-Bukhārī 50, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 9:5]. It is the memory of the practicality of this small book coupled with my long-term preoccupation with the concept of ‘self-purification’ which brings me to this point.
Think about WHAT as well as HOW the market will receive your book: it’s important you consider current trends and engage those who simply know better than you; my 18-year-old daughter for instance shaped the ‘social media’ content and context within the handbook and is now managing our social media marketing! It is colour coded which will be very beneficial to the reader, especially in an educational setting. After spending some time with this book, I was surprised that a similar format isn’t being more widely adopted as there is a clear gap in the market for a handbook on treating spiritual diseases. Often we get overwhelmed with feelings that bring out the worst in us and we are unable to move forward and as such, we fall into a downward spiral. We may feel envious of someone but may not know how to treat it from an Islamic perspective. The book offers practical solutions to common problems, problems that if unresolved, could lead to life-long damage to your spiritual health, this dunya and most importantly, your akhirah. Al-Quran Al-Kareem Maqdis is a ' word-by-word' translation learning method, where every word and sentence is coloured differently, in Arabic and English. Every word has been translated literally so that the reader can understand their individual meaning. However, not all literal translation represents the exact meaning of the word since the Qur'an uses varied Arabic language style and sometimes metaphor. This spiritual guide to the self is a handbook of tazkiyah or ‘self-purification’. Not only does it illustrate the maladies of the human spiritual condition, it recognizes the struggles and insecurities we all succumb to from time to time, and offers up the remedies too.
This Qur'an has been approved by the Department of Islamic Development of Malaysia (JAKIM) and Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN).
