During our test, we evaluated each concealer based on its texture, coverage, staying power, shade range, and value. Those that impressed us the most across these attributes appear on this list. Despite CoverGirl offering the same quantity of colors as Tarte, this shade range could use an extra option in the tan and deep categories. There are eight shades in the light and medium categories, and seven shades in the tan and deep ones. Additionally, it would be easier to choose a shade if the names were reminiscent of the undertones, like Tarte’s. Still, our panelists felt that they received shades close enough to create a cohesive makeup look.
The Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer ( available at Sephora) creased right away and settled into all of my fine lines—hardly “flawless.”If you contour, you can also use a lighter concealer to highlight. Apply the lighter concealer to the center of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose, your cupid’s bow, and the center of your chin. Like the Tarte Shape Tape, its larger doe-foot applicator deposits plenty of concealer onto the skin for a full-coverage look. However, it can easily be thinned out and blended into the skin on lighter makeup days. Shade: For undereye circles, opt for a color that's a shade or two lighter than your natural skin tone, which "will brighten up the under eye area and disguise the dark circles," says Whelan. For dark spots, look for peach undertones to neutralize the dark brown cast. To cover acne, try and match your skin tone exactly or grab a green- or yellow-tinted formula to help neutralize the redness of the spot.
Concealer can also be used as a cream highlighter on the bridge of your nose, lower forehead, brow bone, cupid's bow, upper cheekbones, or chin. Celebrity makeup artist Erika La' Pearl explains, "You want a concealer to give the skin a bit of brightness while eliminating any dark circles, concealing redness, and covering up any dullness on the face." Pat McGrath knows a thing or two about creating beautiful complexion formulas, and this concealer is one of them. With a creamy and lightweight consistency, it applies smoothly and evenly under the eyes. We loved that the formula is buildable, so you can get medium or full coverage to suit your preferences, and we were impressed that it was pretty resistant to creasing. Also notable is this product's expansive shade range, with 36 hues to choose from—the second-highest number on this list behind Fenty Beauty's concealer. With that being said, the shades do lean pretty yellow in tone, so if you have cool, pink undertones, it could be challenging to find a shade that matches your skin tone perfectly.

The drugstore is my favorite place to shop for makeup. It feels like a double win when you find a holy-grail product and it’s affordable. Of the 14 drugstore brands I tested, the CoverGirl TruBlend Undercover Concealer takes the crown. Just note that there's no such thing as the best concealer that works for absolutely everyone. You have to consider your skin type, undertone and personal preferences. Are you looking for a long-wear, crease-free option that doesn't need setting powder to last all day long? Or are you after one that is weightless and illuminating but gives you just coverage to get through your 9-5? That’s why it’s important that any concealer in my collection is versatile enough to cover everything I want, from a full glam look or to just reducing redness on my cheeks or darkness under my eyes on “no-makeup makeup” days.
Both the E.L.F. Cosmetics Hydrating Camo Concealer ( available at Target) and the E.L.F.
