The Wizarding World continues to evolve to provide Harry Potter fans with fresh and exciting ways to engage. For the worldwide fan community, and for generations to come, it welcomes everyone in to explore and discover the magic for themselves. Pressing the A button opens the main menu, with the options to provide care or to play the games. The "Care" options allow the user to either feed a meal or pet the creature. The meal option (depicted as a bowl of food) fills one Hungry unit, and will refuse to eat anymore once the meter is full. The petting option (depicted as a heart) fills one Happy unit, and the creature can be pet even when the Happy meter is full. The A button is also used to open the lights on and off menu when the creature has fallen asleep.After three days (72 hours) of providing good care, the user will be prompted to either release the creature or continue raising it. If the user chooses to keep it, the device will ask again in another three days. If the user chooses to release it, the creature will depart and leave a "thank you" letter. From there, the user can start over again by pressing the A and C buttons together.

The release of the Harry Potter Tamagotchi falls eight days behind the release of the Nintendo Switch version of Hogwarts Legacy, the latest video game in the Wizarding World franchise.
