One Christmas wish, two brothers, and a lifetime of hope are on the line for hapless Maelyn Jones in In a Holidaze, the quintessential holiday romantic novel by Christina Lauren, the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners.. Christmas Ground hogs Week! In a Holidaze is such a fun and festive story including a cozy cabin, found family, and friends to lovers trope. This was a great Christmas read focusing on family, traditions, and how to open your eyes to something (or someone) that has always been there. This novel was basically a Hallmark Christmas movie in book format. Sweet, predictable and fluffy. Bring all the Fluff, it’s the fluffiest. In all the right ways. Our MC Mae is quite literally a hot mess. Mae had been pining away for Andrew for over a decade, but she never let him know.If she can right her wrongs, Mae could face a brighter and more promising future. She also has an opportunity to tell her long-time family friend, Andrew, how she really feels about him. Yes, absolutely! If you have an immersion blender, add all of the ingredients except the hot butter. Turn the blender on (with it firmly planted on the bottom of the cup or jar) and slowly drizzle in the butter. It will start to emulsify and once you’ve poured in all the butter you’re done! Every single Christmas, Mae’s family got together with her parent’s college best friends and their families. They celebrated the holidays together in the mountains and were so close knit. They loved each other deeply and had so many rituals and activities that they looked forward to each year. Except this year…..Mae messed up big time. And with it looking like this would be their last time together, Mae’s heart was bleeding. But then, her whole life got turned upside down and inside out. With a touch of magic, that reminded me of Groundhogs Day, I had absolutely no clue what was going to happen next! The display says that today is December 20. But this morning was December 26.

Have I mentioned the cabin yet?? If not, it was a dream of coziness, and told the story of family get-togethers, of roaring fireplaces and game nights. Of baking together and sleeping in bunkbeds. A beloved vacation home that brought all the families together, year in and year out. When Mae gets a chance to make it right she seizes the opportunity, again and again. Enter Andrew. Funny, Kind, Gorgeous, Sweet Andrew.

I’m incredibly grateful for the magnificent The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee by David Treuer. This book — a mélange of history, memoir, and reportage — is the reconceptualization of Native life that’s been urgently needed since the last great indigenous history, Dee Brown’s Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. It’s at once a counternarrative and a replacement for Brown’s book, and it rejects the standard tale of Native victimization, conquest, and defeat. Even though I teach Native American studies to college students, I found new insights and revelations in almost every chapter. Not only a great read, the book is a tremendous contribution to Native American — and American — intellectual and cultural history.”
