A toy trademarked and produced by Spin Master Ltd.  Kinetic Sand looks like regular wet sand but is available in different colors. It can be molded into any desired shape. It is 98% ultra-fine grain sand mixed with 2% dimethicone ( polydimethylsiloxane), and coated with olive oil. Because of its oil coating, the sand never dries out. It mimics the physical properties of wet sand.  Get out those letter stamps again and practice spelling sight words. Use the tip of a paint brush or a pencil to write the letters in the sand too.

One of the things I love about Kinetic Sand is that, while it IS messy, it is a lot less messy than either regular play sand or moon sand. It clumps together so the mess is less.

We used colorful play sand so there was no need to mess with food coloring and I find that it is pretty colorfast. This could depend on the brand used though. To be safe, we always play on a plastic tray and wash hands right afterward. However, if you’re looking to avoid dyes altogether you can make your kinetic sand with regular brown play sand.
