Aluminium hydroxide may cause constipation and magnesium salts overdose may cause hypomotility of the bowel; large doses of this product may trigger or aggravate intestinal obstruction and ileus in patients at higher risk such as those with renal impairment, or the elderly. Stomach acid is produced in the stomach as a normal part of the digestive process. However, too much stomach acid can cause symptoms such as heartburn and indigestion. Antacids work by binding to and neutralising excess acid. This helps to relieve the pain and discomfort of heartburn and indigestion associated with excess stomach acid. you have needed to use heartburn or indigestion remedies continuously for two or more weeks to control your symptoms

you are taking a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), eg aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, indometacin, naproxen, azapropazone, piroxicam, ketoprofen.quinolone-type antibiotics eg ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, nalidixic acid, moxifloxacin (if you are prescribed a course of one of these antibiotics it is recommended that you take the antibiotic at least two hours before or four to six hours after taking this medicine)

Indigestion and heartburn can sometimes be symptoms of more serious conditions such as stomach ulcers or stomach cancer. For this reason, you should consult your doctor if any of the following apply to you: Children aged 5 to 12 years should be given one 5ml spoonful three to four times a day, 20 minutes to one hour after meals and at bedtime, as needed to relieve symptoms.Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines. This includes medicines you can buy without prescription, including herbal medicines. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately. If your symptoms don't go away or get worse despite taking this medicine you should consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Very rare: Hypermagnesemia, including observations after prolonged administration of magnesium hydroxide to patients with renal impairmentMaalox Plus tablets should not be taken at the same time as other medicines. This is because Maalox Plus Tablets can affect the way other medicines work. If Maalox Plus Tablets are taken within one hour of any other medicine, they can affect the uptake of that medicine into the blood.
