About this deal

Being a single mother is tough, but I’d do anything for my little girl Scarlet. I’d given up on my career as a voice actor when the call came, but suddenly I was the new narrator for a secret book from bestselling author Philippa Roberts, who has been missing for eight months. It was a lifeline for me and my daughter. Sixteen years on, Rose still blames herself for Billy’s death. How could she have failed to protect her little brother?

Missing by K L Slater | Waterstones

Imagine you have a 9 year old daughter ( Grace ) and you agree to let her walk home from a neighbours house, after a trip to Alton Towers, you and Grace’s friends parents are watching but a chain of small events mean as she turns the bend In the road no one can actually see her, just for a minute....then shes gone...disappeared....into seemingly thin air... Absolutely brilliant! I sat and read the book in a day and did not want to put it down!… I even text my mum when I was halfway through telling her it was a book she NEEDED to read!!… Without a doubt 5 stars – I LOVED it!!!’ Donna’s Book Blog, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Her father watched her go. The girls father the other end watched her arrive. Both doing this secretly But Rose was used to leading a quiet life. With her cat, working in a library and has some issues of her own. Sixteen years earlier, before Billy went missing, Rose began dating a man named Gareth. He was much older than she was. He was handsome, and seemed oh so sophisticated. He liked that she was sweet, fresh and unsoiled. When Gareth began dictating what Rose did with her time and who she was friends with, she thought he wanted the best for her, being young and naïve, Rose didn’t realize what it meant and how it would change the course of her life -until it was too late.

K.L. SLATER K.L. SLATER

K. L. Slater is such a tremendous author. This isn't my first book by her and it certainly won't be the last. She writes psychological thrillers with a sure hand, deftly defined characters that you won't forget easily, and a story premise second to none. There has been so many books flooding the “child missing” book market that I second guessed whether to read this or not.The story is told in several timelines starting in 1993 when eight year old Jimmy Bennett is deliberately trapped and subsequently dies inside a disused factory for which Samuel Barlow is convicted. Twenty five years on Samuel is due for release on parole, a huge cause of concern to Jimmy’s sister Josie, a cafe owner and single mum to eight year old Ivy. Maggie, Samuel’s mother is similarly concerned partly because he is now a prison hardened but more than capable of playing games and he was obsessed with with Josie when growing up. Will Josie and Maggie‘s concerns prove to be justified? I’ve known him all my life. I know he has taken my daughter. His mother says she can help me. But she’s the last person I can trust… There are plenty of secondary characters ... the neighbor man next door that Lucie doesn't quite trust .... a friend who may or may not be having an affair with her husband .... her mother-in-law who seems to care more about what people will think rather than worry about her grand-daughter ... Lucie's father, who's always been a bit controlling.
