There are the two young boys, George and Paul who have never really fitted in at school and in trying to change that suffer the drastic consequences. On arrival at the station, officers found Tavener with a significant injury to his hand after he had been hit by a train. Tavener lost several fingers. The 45-year-old then fled his Brendon Gardens home and attempted to take his own life by lying in front of a train.A few doors down, harmless old Mrs Freer is bludgeoned to death, and Rina can’t help but be drawn into the mystery. It is easy to believe that Somerset does not see the kinds of brutal crimes that are seen in other parts of the country. Good, solid whodunits, without gruesome details or gratuitous violence, Murder on Sea may be just your cup of tea’— Bec Stafford
Reading this made me feel happy as I love the author and I love Whitstable, it was also good to catch up on what the characters of Pearl, Dolly and DCI Mike McGuire had been up to. These characters are great, so down to earth and normal and I think that is why it works as you can relate to a lot of it, well apart from the murders, lol. Rina Martin is a retired actress who played a TV sleuth for years. She put all that behind her when she moved to the sleepy town of Frantham-on-Sea. Here on the Dorset coast, she runs her own pin-neat guest house and life is blissfully quiet. Then a brutal killer comes to town. A few doors down, harmless old Mrs Freer is bludgeoned to death, and Rina can’t help but be drawn into the mystery. Rina and Mac make an interesting pair, with Rina’s forthrightness and Mac recovering from the trauma of a previous case. There is no evidence to suggest that anyone else was present or involved in Kevin's death," Mr Williams added. The couple's two young sons were left to discover their mother fatally injured before the eldest called the police.
Murder-on-Sea is the second book in Julie Wassmer’s popular crime series – now a major Acorn TV drama, Whitstable Pearl, starring Kerry Godliman as private detective and restaurateur, Pearl Nolan.Rina thinks that the intruders were after her gun, although it was of new real use to anyone. But who would have wanted the gun ... and willing to kill for it? The 31-year-old smothered Catherine Wells-Burr, 23, as she slept at their home in Chard in September 2012. In this Pearl mystery it is Christmas time so plenty of activity going on with the church events and work outings to Pearls restaurant called The Whitstable Pearl so when people start receiving poison pen christmas cards Pearl decides she has to say no to solving the mystery under her Nolan’s Detective Agency as she just has so much to do.
